The Australian Museum holds extensive collections of birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, fish, fossil plants and animals, invertebrates, minerals, rocks, gemstones, meteorites and tektite specimens. The Collection Development Strategy, Natural Science Collections, 2007 - 2012 sets out the priorities for acquisitions through field collecting, donations and purchases. The strategy is aligned with research priorities as per the Australian Museum Science Research Strategy 2007-2012.
