Document: Ethnographic Collection Development Strategy 2008-2012

View document

The Australian Museum has a world class cultural collection, particularly from the Pacific Region (especially Melanesia), Indigenous Australia and Indonesia. The Collection Development Strategy sets out priorities for further collection development to strategically build on the existing collections of antiquities, heritage items, ethnographic objects and archaeological artefacts. Future collection development will focus on human relationships with the environment, and the history and cultural diversity of Indigenous peoples from Australia, the Pacific and South-East Asia including their cultural landscape. The strategy is aligned with the Museum's research priorities as per the Australian Museum Science Research Strategy 2007-2012.
